Gems by Jules

Julie Meister from Ohio in the US is the talented artisan behind Gems by Jules and her story begins in 2006:

`I cross stitch and many designs in cross stitch incorporate beads. I used to meet with a local group of women a few times a year and one of my friends from that group got interested in beading. She showed me a really easy beading stitch which got me started. But when she opened her own bead store, that’s when things really took off for me. I have taken a few classes at her shop, bought books – and of course I buy lots of beads from her! It’s an ever-growing obsession`.

Fast forward to the present day and Julie`s skill and attention to detail have yielded great results - 

`Very few people have the patience, time or eye-sight for this kind of beading. The intricacies of bead-weaving make for unusual pieces. Of course, creating my own designs also makes my business special`.

Julie can personalise items by changing colours and also create bespoke pieces for those customers seeking something exactly to their taste. Julie estimates 50% of her business comes from custom orders. 

Inspiration for her Collection comes from a variety of sources - 

`I am all the time looking at pictures of items on line – sometimes I will base something on clip art that is used in scrapbooking. Sometimes, it is a photograph, and sometimes it is simply something that I see floating around in my head`
